03 October 2012 - Sarcoma patient performs at Paralympics Ceremony and raises money for Sarcoma UK
A patient treated at the London Sarcoma Service took part in the performance of a lifetime at the Opening Ceremony for the London Paralympics Games.
Becki McGuiness was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (a type of bone cancer) in 2008 at the age of 21 and had chemotherapy and radiotherapy at UCLH and surgery at RNOH.
Becki auditioned for the Paralympics Ceremony as she felt that even though she had restricted mobility she could still dance in her wheelchair with the upper part of her body. She describes how everyone was included and played a part in the ceremony which made her proud to know that regardless of her disability she could take part in something truly unique.
Becki used the opportunity to raise money for Sarcoma UK and you can still donate on her website http://www.justgiving.com/CopingwiththebigC. She also has a blog on copingwiththebigc.blogspot.co.uk
