Spinal sarcomas can arise from the vertebrae of the spine as primary bone tumours (including Ewing's sarcoma, osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma), or as soft tissue tumours of a range of histologies, in the tissues close to the spine. Management is complex, often requiring the combination of several treatments. Close liaison is essential between the sarcoma oncologists and the spinal surgeons (working from RNOH and the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery), who regularly attend one of the weekly sarcoma MDT meetings.
